Firefighters are battling a large fire at a landfill site in South Ockendon.
Crews rushed to North Road at roughly 3am this morning to reports of a large fire at a landfill site.
On arrival, crews confirmed that the fire had spread across an area of around 300 square metres.
In order to establish a good supply of water, requested support from a Water Bowser.
Crews also used an off-road vehicle to enable them to reach areas of the fire that were difficult to access.
By 5.43am, firefighters had managed to contain the fire to an area of 50 square metres.
At 8am, crews were continuing to monitor the site.
Due to the large amount of smoke, the fire service recommends that if you live or work nearby you keep your windows and doors closed this morning while firefighting continue.
