PROSPECTIVE MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock Constituency, Stephen Metcalfe, hosted Lord Tebbit at the Carlton Club last week for the inaugural meeting of the Constituency Businessman’s Patron’s Club.
Norman Tebbit spoke of the massive financial problems facing this country.
He spoke of the problems that Thatcher government had faced and overcome.
He said that all Labour governments left office leaving serious financial problems and he outlined the steps a new Conservative Government would need to address to get the country back on its feet.
The founding Chairman of the Basildon Businessmen’s’ Dining Club, Thurrock Councillor, Mike Revell, reminisced on the original formation of the club, formed in the days when David Amess first became the MP for Basildon.
The first speaker was Michael Heseltine and from that time all the leading Conservatives had spoken to the club with the exception of Norman Tebbit.
He was therefore delighted that Lord Tebbit had spoken at this meeting when the old dining club was being transformed into the new Patrons’ Club.
