Robert Alan WOOD (Bob Wood) 03.06.1934 - 15.05.2016 Bob was born in Tilbury, the second of 7 children. After attending St Chads, Bob worked as a Toe Laster at the Bata Shoe factory. After marrying Bernice (Alderman) they moved to Corringham, where after the birth of Karen, Bob worked at Shell Haven as a Fireman and Security Officer. In 1961 Bob was elected Labour Councillor for Corringham & Fobbing, where he served for the next 23 years. He was elected the youngest ever Chairman of Thurrock District Council in 1973, then in 1984 Bob served as Mayor of Thurrock Council. During this time, Bob & Bernice represented Thurrock in Russia & Germany, met the Queen Mother & Princess Margaret, celebrated the refurbishment of Tilbury Fort and was instrumental in the planning of Lakeside, amongst many other things. Bob also found time to serve on the bench in Grays as a JP. Taking early retirement in 1984, Bob & Bernice moved firstly to Devon and then to Spain. They returned to Thurrock in 1989 and eventually settled in Chadwell St Mary with Bernice's Mum. When Bernice's health declined, they made the decision to move to Lincolnshire to be nearer to their youngest Daughter, Annette. Bernice passed in 2013 after a long battle with Parkinson's with Lewy Body Disease, it was after this that the Family realised that Bob was also struggling with dementia. Bob was cared for in his final years by Annette & her Family. He will be greatly missed by his two Daughters Karen & Annette and their respective Families who will forever remember his selflessness, devotion and huge smile.
