PUTT Michael Sydney Sad death of local Sailmaker. Ian and Simon are sad to announce the recent passing of Mike on 17th November, at the age of 93. A beloved husband, father and grandfather, he will be missed by everyone who knew him. Mike served an apprenticeship in the Royal Docks, after the second world war, and went on to become production manager of the largest flag and tent manufacturing company in the UK. He started his own business in 1969 and during his career he worked on many famous ships. These included The Cutty Sark, HMS Belfast, HMS Victory and also on several films, including 'In the Heart of the Sea' and 'Pan'. Mike carried on working until 2015, finally retiring at the age of 86, due to failing eyesight. His funeral will be held at South Essex Crematorium, Upminster on 7th December at 10.40am. Family flowers only please, donations to the RNLI.
