DID you have a good Easter? There were lots of Easter eggs doing the rounds in Hardie Park on Good Friday and more than few fried ones in St Margaret’s Church!
I spent some of the day lugging a big cross round on my shoulder – it sparked a few conversations on the subject of what Easter really means.
The old spiritual goes “were you there when they crucified my Lord?” to which many say “of course not”. But is that true? Do we have any involvement in the death of Christ?
My colleague, community evangelist Rob Groves, wrote this on Facebook: “Thinking about Barabbas, the murderer in the Easter story, realising He is a description of me, one who murdered Jesus – how am I complicit?
“Because I needed Him to die, so I can know forgiveness of my sins. But rather than be pulled down by that terrible thought, I also realise his name is Bar (son) Abbas (father).
“He is the son of the father and so am I! If you need proof that every human being is included into the gospel of grace, then look at Barabbas and know that he who murdered God was also His son and stands forgiven along with us.
“Every human being was included in the crime – and the forgiveness.”
Enjoy the rest of this season. Share a bit of chocolate – and share a bit of forgiveness too!
