SUMMER'S on its way so its time to get your wardrobe ready for some warmer weather. ANGELA POPLETT, intu Lakeside’s Personal Stylist, reveals the trends that are going to be big this season.
“At the start of the year the shops went mad for monochrome and there was barely a celebrity out there who didn’t embrace the trend. As we edge closer to the start of the summer, though, monochrome is becoming more about black and white separates, creating two strong trends that are very easy to achieve.
“Whites and off-whites are everywhere right now and the key to getting this look spot-on is to mix different tones together with different textures. Pick up a selection of lace, crochet and embroidered pieces from Warehouse and mix them up to create your look.
"Or, try a current season Monsoon crocheted dress in creamy white paired with wedges and oversized sunglasses. The golden rule: finish any all-white outfit with a pair of white shoes, sandals or stilettos (the white ankle strap sandals in Oasis are my favourites) – perfect for summertime in Essex.
”On the flip-side we’re seeing a rare appearance of black for summer. Make sure you try black-on-black if you want to be at the height of fashion and its all about texture once more – lace, chiffon and tailoring, this time.
"Use your imagination to create new combinations with separates from H&M and Next who are leading the way with this look. Or, inject a splash of colour with basics from intu Lakeside’s Forever 21 in the form of chiffon high neck shirts, slim leg trousers and blazers that all come in a wide range of shades.
“If black and white isn’t your cup of tea, you can buy into the floral 50s trend instead. To achieve this look take your pick of the many floral mid-length dresses that are belted and kick out from the waist. It’s a classic shape that’s incredibly flattering for almost every figure.
"Oasis has a particularly wide range of these styles but check out Monsoon and Debenhams at intu Lakeside, too. A floral 50s dress will work particularly well for a summer wedding so add a fascinator and you’ll be ready to go.
“For your accessories this summer, Metallic is undoubtedly the way to. Gold and silver shoes look great with any outfit and really add an extra dose of edginess. Coast’s footwear range is stunning this season and they’ve got plenty of options for you in this style. Add a pair of shiny sunglasses and work it!”
