THE West Tilbury 72nd birthday party went with a swing.
President Margaret Clamp invited guests from institutes in the Thames Group who joined us in singing Jerusalem before sitting down to an excellent buffet prepared by the members.
The tables were decorated in pink and white and with wild flowers displayed for decoration, it looked lovely.
Tonight was also a celebration of member Dorothy Hawes’ 90th birthday – she was presented with a balloon and cards while everyone sang happy birthday.
Our entertainer was Kay Cecil, well known for singing in care homes and OAP complexes.
Kay, a great personality, sang songs that had everyone joining in and then dancing to her melodies, from jigging to line dancing.
Each person had a free raffle ticket for a surprise present given by Jane Woodman, who was also celebrating her 80th birthday. This was won by Denise Bain, a visitor from North Stifford WI. The next meeting is at West Tilbury Village Hall on August 6, from 7pm to 9.30pm.
Speaker is Ian Kirby on Burnham Boy. Any women who would like to join us will be most welcome.
