LAST week the residents of Colne, East Tilbury, were graced with fly-tippers who kindly left us the remains of someone’s old kitchen.
Being this was dumped in the garage or parking area between our properties, being a good resident I cleaned and bagged up the smaller items, put the fridge freezer back together and contacted the fly-tipper department at Thurrock Council.
I was thanked by the lady I spoke with and was told I would be contacted for more details.
Feeling positive about what a good Samaritan I had been, I even completed their phone survey to rate their helpfulness.
However, upon being recontacted by the council I was left shocked as the land between our houses apparently doesn't belong to anyone and being that I own my property and a garage in this vicinity, I had to dispose of this large item myself.
This left me a little shocked, so I contacted the complaints department thinking the person I spoke with had got it wrong.
Today, more than a week after reporting this incident, I’m told they are unsure which department this would fall under at Thurrock Council?
When I questioned about being told I should clear this myself, I was asked ‘why should we pay to clear this’ – and there was me thinking my council tax paid for such actions.
So anyone unfortunate enough to fall foul of flytippers, do yourselves a favour and don’t contact Thurrock Council, as it will only result in a lot of stress and no action. Anyone needing a fridge freezer, please come visit us.
PAUL RYE Colne, East Tilbury.
