WHILE the roadworks may be essential for the anticipated huge increase in traffic to and from the port, was it really essential to remove every tree, bush, hedge and blade of grass?
The Manorway/A13 junction was a mini nature reserve that had evolved and become established over some 40 years, with a good covering of trees, shrubs, and resident wildlife.
Likewise the Sorrells round-about had established trees and flower beds. All is now a wasteland, trees, undergrowth, long-established hedges and even the grass removed to reveal bare earth, as if the roads aren’t eyesore enough.
I, and I am sure the residents of Stanford and Corringham, sincerely hope DP World, Thurrock Council, the Department of Transport and all responsible or interested parties will make every effort to replace the mature trees, and ensure the sight is restored as close as possible to its original environment.
With the huge increase in lorry traffic pending and consequent serious rise in pollution, the replacement of these trees and repair of the local environment is essential, both from a health and a visual perspective.
Residents have had more than enough to contend with over the last year with road closures, traffic congestion, dust, dirt and noise pollution.
We neither want, nor do we expect, to have to wait years for trees, shrubs, plants and grass to be re-established in this area.
DAVID A MORRISH Hearsall Avenue, Stanford-le-Hope.
