CARYL Taylor, our president, welcomed 22 members to our September meeting on Wednesday 25th.
The guest speaker was Leila Sullivan, who gave a very interesting presentation on the life of her Victorian Irish grandparents.
Leila was brought up by her grandparents in Delvin, southern Ireland, but later found out she was actually born in Essex.
She did later return to essex and was mayoress of Southend.
Some of our members made a trip to Tilbury Docks and said it was a very enlightening experience. Also our trip to Orsett Hall for afternoon tea was a great success.
Members were reminded of forthcoming shows including Burlesque and Silver Bells in November.
Our birthday party will be our next meeting on Wednesday, October 23, with the theme inviting members and guests to make a mask.
Margaret Smith won this month’s competition .
We welcome new members. The meetings are held at Emmanuel Church, Sleepers Farm Road, Chadwell St Mary.
