A TEAM of youngsters from a Stanford-le-Hope Glee Club have sung their way to an London grand final.

St Clere’s Starmakers Glee Club, based at St Clere’s Secondary School in Stanford-le-Hope, have reached the national final at the third time of trying and will perform at the O2 Arena on Sunday, November 24 following their success in the Essex regional final.

The group of 24 young people, aged 11 to 19, cannot wait for the challenge and the chance to win £5,000.

Joanne Nyland, Business Manager at the School, said: “We think we got through this year because we are doing something very different to all the other Glee groups and it went down well with the judges.

“We have lots of work ahead and can’t wait for the final.”

The after-school club consists of former and current pupils with a keen interest in performing arts and will now perform in front of a celebrity judging panel, headed up by TV chat show host Graham Norton.

The competition is part of the Jack Petchey Foundation ‘Glee Club Challenge’, aimed at involving young people in society.

Tickets for the Grand Final cost £13 and are available from www.axs.com/jackpetcheygleeclubchallengetickets.
