A YEAR of disruption on the A13 has ended with the completion of a new roundabout in Stanford-le-Hope.

The £10million project was finished on schedule - and in time for the grand opening of DP World’s London Gateway last week.

The new A13/A1014 Junction features:

*three lanes, instead of two

*a new bridge

*wider slip roads

*traffic lights

Noise barriers will also be set-up soon and there’s still some cosmetic work to be done with trees and shrubs being introduced along the embankments of the junction.

David Huckstep, Project Manager, of developers J. Murphy & Sons Limited, said: “Murphy would like to thank the local community and road users for their understanding and patience over the past 12 months whilst the improvement work was taking place.”

The A13 has been subject to speed restrictions as the work was undertaken, leading to widespread traffic jams and a number of diversions on the roundabout as work was carried out, including diversions onto the neighbouring A127.

In December 2012, a crane toppled onto the A13 from the roundabout, causing lengthy delays.

The project is the first time in the UK a transport project on this scale has been funded by private enterprise, without costing motorists or taxpayers a penny.
