How the developed site could look, with new homes, a Morrison supermarket and restaurants
PLANS to build 320 homes, a new Morrisons supermarket, two restaurants and a petrol station near Lakeside shopping centre have been unveiled.
Developers want to build on the disused land behind KFC, just off West Thurrock Way, best known as Lakeside Autopark, The firm - Hammerson UK Properties which owns the land - have launched a website to allow residents to have their say on proposals before a planning application is submitted.
Residents have raised concerns about the shortage of school places in the area, with Thurrock Council already looking to build a new primary school in West Thurrock to help over-subscribed schools on London Road.
A spokesman representing developers said school places is something the developer will be discussing with the council at a later date.
He said: “The proposed masterplan has been developed to support the long held aspiration of Thurrock Council to transform the Lakeside Basin into a new town centre at the heart of the local community.”
A council spokesman added: “The council is in dialogue with the developer. We will consider the implication for school places as a result of this development, as part of our established pupil place planning process.”
