A COMMUNITY choir is encouraging members to join the chorus as it prepares for its latest show.

The Thurrock Community Chorus will soon be staging an Opera Mash-Up’ named Ebb and Flow, at the Civic Hall, in Blackshots Lane, Grays and a number of members have said the chorus has changed their life and made them a stronger person.

Members Danielle Chinnon and Daniel Pargeter have embraced the community feel of the show and said all should get involved.

Danielle Chinnon, from Little Thurrock, said: “It’s really nice to meet and mix with people of all different groups from the community. I have met people I have become really good friends with and I would encourage everyone to give it a go.”

Ebb and Flow features the comings and goings of people at a cruise terminal, mixing all three of the operas with ordinary life.

It features operatic choruses and solos, such as When I am Laid in Earth from Dido and Aeneas and the majestic O Voto Tremendo from Idomeneo.

Daniel Pargeter, 25, from Romford said he likes nothing than going out with his mates and playing football, but also has a passion for singing.

“This is such a release for me. People may have pre-conceptions of what opera is but it is a wonderful way to express yourself. On my first day everyone welcomed me with open arms and if people want to get involved then I cannot recommend this enough.”

Tickets for Ebb and Flow: An Opera Mash-up are £10 and concessions are £8. The show is on Saturday, November 30.

They can be booked online at www.roh.org.uk or by calling the Royal Opera House box office on 020 7304 4000.
