Our Speaker this month was Chris Meads who was for many years one of the heads of Hobson’s Uniforms. This was a very informative slide show and talk, as many of the members had no idea that the uniforms for our military were made so near to us by the firm of Hobson’s at Thundersly in Essex.
This began as a small firm in London then moved into Essex, from then on it has grown to encompass world-wide customers but keeping up the excellent standards set by its founder.
Hobson’s supply all uniforms with everything required and made at the factory for men and women from head to toe. Our members were intrigued to see the samples of standards carried by the regiments that are hand embroidered by the women at the factory.
Chris Meads brought other samples of miniature items for everyone to see. This was a really good programme and everyone would have enjoyed a visit to see this in action, unfortunately owing to the ‘Elf and Safety’ regulations this is no longer an option.
