A South Ockendon council tenant has won £500 compensation in a court battle with Thurrock Council after her flat was flooded with dirty water and sewage.
The court ruled that the council had been negligent after they failed to fix leaking plumbing or re-house Miss Corr.
In an emotive court battle, Giselle Corr, 33 of Cam Green, South Ockendon, who suffers from learning disabilities, claimed £6,000 to replace her lost furniture.
However, the court awarded only £500 for damages. This was even though a private tenant was awarded £8,000 in a similar case earlier this year.
They argued that Ms Corr had presented insufficient receipts to receive the full amount in damages.
