SO it seems something is going to be done with the State cinema.
Since our story last week revealed it could soon become a Wetherspoons pub we have been bombarded with people having their say on the plan.
The general consensus is something has to happen to this wonderful old building.
A lot of people seem keen on the pub idea, and there’s the hope other restaurants may be be tempted to open up if the pub was part of a wider development on the site.
I think there’s quite a lot of people who would like to see some sort of entertainment conducted on the site too, to act as something of a legacy to the place.
With talk of the Thameside needing a new home, I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking the State would be an ideal switch.
But unfotunately it seems the council hasn’t the cash available to make this happen, which is a shame.
It has to be good thing that plans are advancing for this grand old place, it’s been left to rot for too long already.
*I couldn’t sign off without mentioning the inspirational Evie Redgrove, aged six.
She came into our office with her mum and and told us catergorically what she thought about any plans to shut her local library!
She is a shining example of everything that is good about youngsters in our community.
