THE great Grays tower blocks debate rages on.
A group of young mums have now banded together and taken to Facebook to have their say.
They want out of the town centre flats – and want to see them razed to the ground.
Yet, there are plenty of residents within the lofty landmarks who have no intention of going anywhere. These residents have taken many decades shaping their homes.
The Gazette has been invited inside a few, and it’s clear to see how proud residents are, and the views from up there, across the Thames, aren’t too bad either.
The fact is Grays needs improving. There are plans in the pipeline, and I feel one of the key issues for future planners is reopening the town to the Thames.
After all, who on earth thought it was a good idea to box Grays in? It needs turning back towards the coastline.
Thurrock is blessed with miles of it. Yet you’d never know it walking through the town. All you need to do is look at how developers have revamped areas just a few miles up the river in London.
I daresay the ageing tower blocks will go, eventually, and when they do the council must make sure the right architects and designers get involved to ensure Grays capitalises on the assets it’s blessed with.
