The company behind Thurrock’s biggest regeneration project has revealed how Purfleet may look when the £1billion development is complete.
It comes shortly after the Government announced it would provide £75million towards the scheme which will help fund infrastructure improvements that could range from replacing the level crossing with a bridge over the railway to a new health centre.
The plans for the regeneration of Purfleet were approved by the council a year ago and look to create an entirely new town centre, with shops and restaurants.
There will also be 2,850 new homes along with a new primary school, improved transport links and one of four new medical centres set to be built across the borough.
The most standout feature of the scheme is a plan for a 1million square foot ‘media village’ that will include film and television studios.
In the latest images released by Purfleet Centre Regeneration Limited (PCRL), a joint venture between developer Urban Catalyst and Swan Housing Association, show impressions of what the entrance to the studios will looks like, as well as the new homes.
Sir Tim Laurence, chairman of PCRL, said: “These latest images show the scale of our ambition for Purfleet, from transforming the riverfront to upgrading the train station and delivering thousands of homes.
“This is on top of a new school and integrated medical centre for local residents as well as a media village that will see the town emerge as a leading creative hub capable of supporting Britain’s booming film and TV industry.”
The first phase of the project will begin towards the end of the year and see 61 homes built, along with a new children’s play area.
Council documents published in March explained that the authority owns 60 per cent of the land required for the scheme but needs to take back control of the rest, which could mean paying out compensation.
The amount that will need to be paid out is not clear at this stage.
