CONSERVATIVE Stephen Veryard retained his seat in Chafford South with a substantial win.
The Cabinet member was 359 votes clear of nearest rival, former Labour councillor David Hooper.
Councillor Veryard said: "I'm quite happy, I was quietly confident. I will help ensure more cleaning and greening, more police community support officers and help deal with some issues relating to youth services.
I want to thank the residents of South Chafford for their support."
