Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed a serious assault outside a south Essex hotel.

Essex Police officers were called to Weston Avenue in West Thurrock, outside the Ibis Hotel on December 16 after reports of a man being seriously assaulted.

The victim was involved in a verbal altercation with a man before he was attacked.

He was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

A 23-year-old man from Romford has been arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm.

He has since been released with bail conditions whilst enquiries continue.

A spokesman for the force said: "At the time of the assault, the hotel and the street were busy and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this assault or have any further information to contact us.

"If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.
