A MAN wanted on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of drugs was tracked down by a police dog after he went on the run.

Police were made aware of a car driving along the A12 at about 9.20pm last night - June 1.

The car was believed to be linked to a theft of a motor vehicle that happened the same day.

The vehicle was pulled over but then sped off.

Officers pursued it along the A12 before the vehicle stopped and the suspect got out in Hatfield Peverel and escaped.

The Essex Police dog unit and trained canine Trigger were sent to the scene.

The suspect was then successfully detained by the unit.

A 34-year-old man from South Ockendon has been arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop when directed, driving while disqualified and failing to provide a sample.

He was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug, and possession of a Class B drug.

He is currently in custody.
