A woman was rescued after being trapped in her car after a three-vehicle crash on the A13 this morning. 

Emergency services were called to the major road near Grays following a report of a vehicle fire on the London-bound carriageway. 

The incident took place between the Sifford Interchange and the A126, causing huge delays to motorists, as one of the three lanes was closed to deal with the incident. 

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that a woman had been trapped in her car as the result of the collision and was unable to leave the scene. 

A spokesman of the fire and rescue service said: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the A13 westbound between the Stifford Interchange and Junction 30.  

“On arrival, crews reported that three vehicles had collided and a woman was trapped inside her vehicle. Crews worked to rescue the woman and she was left in the care of the Ambulance Service.” 

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that a woman had been taken to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital. 

In a statement, the ambulance service said: “We were called at 7.04am with reports of a collision on the A13 near North Stifford. 

“We sent one ambulance and took a woman to Basildon and Thurrock Hospital for further care.” 

The site was cleared at around 9.20am with the collision vehicles cleared to the side of the road. 

Minor delays continued until 10am as traffic conditions returned to normal.
