A FOOTBRIDGE in South Ockendon was given a new lease of life recently after some young people painted a mural on it.
With help from professional artist John Bulley, pupils from the Ockendon School and Thurrock Council’s Youth and Probation Service got to work on the Tamarisk Road footbridge.
The mural’s theme was “Children throughout the ages” and highlights some historical events in South Ockendon.
The young artists were surprised to learn that some of the Pilgrim Fathers were from the area and there is even a reference made to Ockendon in the Doomsday book.
Councillor Mike Revell, Cabinet member for Environment said: “Some of the artwork has highlighted just how much hidden artistic talent we have in Thurrock.
“The efforts of all involved have resulted in some stunning artwork, which the young people should all be proud of.”
