A SERIES of public meetings are due to take place this month to discuss childcare in Thurrock.

The consultation has been launched because Thurrock Council is responsible for childcare and must make sure it is sufficient, sustainable and available to the needs of working parents for children up to the age of 14 (or 17 for disabled children).

In 2010 surveys helped develop the Thurrock Draft Childcare Sufficiency Assessment and this draft assessment is now out for consultation.

Council officers will be available at four events to talk with residents and employers about the report and how to take part in the consultation.

The meetings will be at Thursday, January 13 at the Thameside Children Centre, Manor Road, Grays between 8.15am and 10am.

On Wednesday, January 19 at the Beacon Children’s Centre, Drake Road, Chafford Hundred, between 9am and 11.30am; Saturday, January 22, at Purfleet Primary School, Tank Hill Road, Purfleet, between 10am and 2pm and Wednesday, January 26 at the Flag Ship Children’s Centre, in London Road, Tilbury, between 4pm until 6pm.

Residents and employers will be able to make comments on the draft by post, email or at any of the above events.

After the consultation has ended, the main report will be published at the end of March
