A CHARITY could be set up to look after the High House Production Park in Purfleet once the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation disbands in 2012.

Councillors were expected to back initial proposals at Wednesday’s Thurrock Council Cabinet meeting.

These would support plans by the Development Corporation to transfer High House Production Park Limited into the charitable sector and “establish a trading subsidiary to oversee the operational management of the Production Park”.

If a charity was established to manage the site and its commercial activities, it would make finding funding for projects at the production park easier.

Sarah Barnes, spokesman for the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation, said: “To ensure the campus remains for the benefit for the people of Thurrock and the wider area, the best way to achieve this is to create a charity.”

It is hoped the charity would help advance education, arts, culture and heritage in the borough.

Cllr Andy Smith, cabinet member for housing and regeneration, was unavailable for comment as the Gazette went to press.
