READING a recent issue of the Gazette, I note Thurrock Council is about to spend yet more money on speed humps in Long Lane.
Given that the state of this road is, to say the least, a complete disgrace, it astounds me that there seems to be a bottomless purse of money for such ventures – but precious little for keeping our streets in a proper state of repair.
Much of the degradation of this road is down to the fact our engineers seem incapable of checking on how the money spent on contractors’ efforts is wisely spent.
I am sure there are many other roads, streets, lanes and avenues in much the same state as Long Lane.
Yet we still see so much of our rates wasted on ridiculous “traffic calming” measures.
Those in that Ivory Tower in New Road haven’t grasped yet that we are in austerity mode. – J W ROBERTS, Long Lane, Grays.
