A CUSTODY officer accused of attacking a woman at a police station has appeared in court.

Catherine Renew, 40, was working as a detention officer at Grays Police Station when she is alleged to have carried out the attack on Rosanna Maloney, who is also known as Rose Martina Maloney.

The attack is alleged to have happened on June 12 2010.

Following the alleged incident Ms Maloney was taken to hospital for treatment.

Renew appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court to face a charge of causing actual bodily harm.

The officer, who gave her address as care of Essex Police’s Chelmsford headquarters, denied the charge.

She was released on unconditional bail and will return to the court in March when she will face trial.
