MORE than 150 people turned out to show their opposition against plans to build 350 homes on green belt land in Stanford-le-Hope.

Action group Residents Against Inappropriate Development organised a photo call at the King Street car park on Saturday and invited residents to show their support against the plans for St Clere’s golf course, in Butts Lane.

Steve Brampton, chairman of the group, said: “It was a really good turnout and it was great to include everyone we have spoken to over the past few months.

“It shows the level of local support against these plans.”

Representatives of the group plan to take the photo and a poster to a planning meeting at Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation, Purfleet, on February 14.

Mr Brampton added: “We are really positive. A picture says so much more than just a petition. We are hoping the planning chiefs will see the photo and take it into consideration.

“Lots of people said at the protest the photo was a good way to show their support. Because of the awkward time of the meeting, during the day, many people cannot make it because they’re at work.”
