POLICE are renewing their appeal for information following a "seemingly unprovoked” attack which left a young man with amnesia.

Three weeks on from the attack in Stanford-le-Hope, detectives are no nearer to identifying the motive or the identify of the attackers.

Jason Murphy had been walking along Church Hill towards Stanford-le-Hope train station when he was accosted by two men who jumped out of a Ford Focus opposite The Rising Sun pub The 24-year-old was then punched by one of the two men, causing him to fall to the ground after which both men returned to the car which was driven off.

Jason, who lives in East Ham, was initially taken to Basildon Hospital by paramedics and treated. He discharged himself but was then readmitted to the Royal London Hospital two days later after his head injury worsened.

He is currently in a stable condition, but is suffering from memory loss caused by his head injury.

The incident took place on the evening of Friday, March 2.

Investigating Officer, Dc Tanya Bailey, said: "On the face of it, there appears to have been no reason for this attack on Jason.

“We’re hoping someone can recall seeing him, the assault, the attackers or the car opposite The Rising Sun on that Friday night.

“We also need to be able to identify Jason’s whereabouts earlier that night from 7:30pm as he has been unable to tell us due to his memory loss.

“Jason had been wearing black clothing so, together with the release of his picture, it is hoped that someone can remember him.”

The assailants are described as white, with one around six foot tall and dark-haired while the other had blonde hair.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Grays police station on 101.
