DID you manage to stay up last Friday and see the Opening Ceremony for the London Games? Wasn’t it awesome?
My favourite part was when the Queen dropped in with James Bond.
And wasn’t the music wonderful? And the way those little bowls all came together to make one big torch.
Oh, I’m sorry – are you one of those who are fed up with the Olympics? The disruption, the emphasis on sporting achievement, the expense.
Hmm. You’ve probably been complaining about the weather too, haven’t you? Too hot last week, too wet the week before.
We all tend to complain a little too much, don’t you think – what journalist Tony Parsons referred to last weekend as “synchronised moaning”. Well, I say it’s time to stop all that!
This next couple of weeks will see the culmination of seven years of planning and the fruition of the hopes and dreams of many young men and women.
And so what if Team GB don’t bring back handfuls of medals – let’s celebrate anyway.
Over the years I’ve been writing this column I’ve tried to “do my take” on all that is good about the world around us. And there’s a lot that is.
The good book says: whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – think about such things and the God of peace will be with you.
Well, think about it at least – and do stop moaning! – John.
