Think again! Selling more than 40 million copies in 37 countries and by British author EL James, it’s Fifty Shades of Grey, the first in a trilogy that’s taken the book market by storm.
Everyone is talking about it and you only need to type the word Fifty into your internet search engine to find out everything you want to know about the book.
What is most remarkable about the phenomenon is that it is pornography, but then, you knew that already, didn’t you?
If you’ve read it (and they tell me it’s not even that realistic) then you’ve already indulged in a bit of sexual fantasy with Ana and Christian and you’ll probably laugh it off with your more broad-minded friends as “just a bit of fun”, but there is a serious issue here.
I’m a church leader and, yes, we do often get accused of “moralising”, so you’ll forgive me if I end my article this week by doing just that.
Topping even Fifty Shades at the best sellers, God’s book says – whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things – and the God of peace will be with you.
