A FIRE destroyed the roof of one house in Corringham, and severely damaged the roof of an adjoining bungalow.
Fire crews were called to Elmstead Close at 11.54am on Saturday, after a fire started in the roof of a semi-detached property, then spread to a bungalow.
Fire fighters managed to put the fire out by 1.01pm.
Assistant Divisional Officer Simon Dedman, the officer in charge at the time, said: "Crews did an excellent job at this incident. They got stuck in and worked extremely hard to get a large fire out as quickly as possible.
"The property where the fire started also suffered some damage on the ground floor.
"It is thanks to the hard work and professionalism of the crews that this fire was brought under control and extinguished without causing more damage."
The fire is not thought to be suspicious.
