THURROCK anglers are catching plenty opf fish. And this is where the action is: Southend Pier: Whiting, dabs and herring have provided sport, mostly on feathers, with dogfish being landed from the pierhead by anglers using long casting.

Southend beaches: School bass, pin whiting and a few flounders have been caught.

Barge Pier: Dogfish have been caught at long range at the Shoebury venue, with flounders and bass also being taken from the right-hand side on Eddystone small black eels.

Shoebury concrete shelter: The occasional whiting has been caught.

Shoebury Boom: Mullet are still being taken on flood and ebb tides.

Thamesmead: Eddie Sharp reports flounders and the occasional sole.

Erith: Bass to 4lb, sizeable flounders and pin whiting have been landed at Morrison’s Jetty.

Medway Industrial Estate: Lots of sizeable whiting have been caught.

Gravesend: Graham, from Dolphin Angling, reports flounders, whiting, the occasional sole and three codling weighing more than 2lb.

Greenthythe: One or two soles have been landed, along with bass and pin whiting.

Charlton: Anglers have caught flounders, eels and pin whiting.

Dagenham Market: Sizeable flounders have been providing sport.

Rainham: Bass, flounders and eels have been making up catches at Coldharbour Lane.

River Crouch: Anglers have reported catching whiting, flounders and eels.

Wallasea Island: The chance of a bass or dogfish.

River Roach: A few school bass and flounders, plus one or two dogfish have been landed.

Walton Pier: Richard Holgate, of Metcalfs, reports whiting up to 1lb, dabs and dogfish, the occasional sole and bass plus a few small codling.

The Naze: Big whiting are being taken on the Naze, with a better chance of a codling at Holland on Sea’s Brighton Road or The Slab.

Pakefield: The Suffolk town is the top spot for codling at the moment with most anglers getting seven or eight fish a session, along with lots of decent whiting weighing up to 2lb.

Boats: Anglers aboard Wallasea’s Cloud Nine stayed out until dusk and were rewarded with a single codling to go with lots of sizeable whiting, dogfish and dabs.
