Aveley 1,
East Thurrock 2
ESSEX SENIOR CUP: GOALS from Mitch Gilbey and David Bryant saw East Thurrock come from behind to clinch a place in round four – and a trip to Dagenham & Redbridge – at the expense of neighbours Aveley.
Having completed a stirring fight back in the FA Trophy on Saturday, Rocks repeated the trick as they cancelled out Junior Appiah’s 58th-minute opener for the hosts at Mill Field.
A trip to Football League opposition for John Coventry’s side is a fine reward for their hard work, but it was tough on Aveley, who enjoyed the better of the opportunities until Rocks’ late rally.
The winner came with seven minutes left to play as fine cross from young substitute Joseph Paxman allowed Bryant to loop home a header from six yards to win the tie.
Aveley: Giddens, Mabuyaku, Holloway, Leader, O’Rawe, Manasary (Blackwood 74), Tajbakhsh (Stephenson 87), Nesbitt, Gayle, Twum (Oakley 81), Appiah.
East Thurrock: Hughes, Sammons, Stephen, Peddie, Sheehan, Parmenter (Thurgood 78), Gilbey, Witherspoon (Paxman 70), Bryant, Smith, Ruel (Dawson 70).
