WOMENS RUGBY: THURROCK T-Birds’ one-sided victory at he weekend was an accomplished performance.
The Thurrock team, wearing pink socks to raise £500 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, outclassed Bath in all departments.
The Thurrock backs ran riot and after 20 minutes, a fifth try and the bonus point was secure with India Harvey, Kathryn Emerson and Emily Scott – who crossed the line twice giving the hosts an unassailable lead.
Even though Bath did some fine work, their defence was mesmerised by the midfield lines of Scott, Burford and Harvey and dominated by the physicality of the Thurrock pack.
With the pack led by Mercedes Foy, carrying hard around the ruck, Bath’s only option was to try and slow the ball down.
But the referee kept them honest and the breakdown clear by dishing out two yellow cards.
The score was 48-0 at half time, but this turned to 96-0 at full time with Harris scoring four trys.
Other points came from Scott who bagged an impressive hat-trick and also kicked eight conversions, while Francis, Foy and Phelps got two each.
To their credit, Bath fought hard all game and did not let their heads drop, still putting in try-saving tackles until the final whistle.
