BOXING: BOWERS Gifford’s Danny Dignum crashed out of the European Union of Boxing Championships event in Sofia.
The talented middleweight (75kg) – who made it through the first round – lost to Frenchman Christian Mbilli Assomo, but Dignum was still philosophical about the result.
The 22-year-old fighter said on Twitter: “I lost, but believe me I’ll learn from it.”
The points loss came after international judges scored his loss 28:29 and 27:29 to put the Essex man out of the championship, despite a decent performance in Bulgaria.
And Dignum found time to cheer on his fellow British fighter Frazer Clarke who triumphed in his recent bout in Sofia. Southpaw Dignum, the twin brother of pro-fighter John Dignum, has set his sights on a place at the Rio 2016 Games.
At the Golden Belt event in Romania last September he was called up to the Great British boxing squad to replace London 2012 bronze medallist Anthony Ogogo, who stepped up to the pro ranks.
Danny Dignum fights out of Brentwood ABC and before going to Sofia was training with the British squad in Sheffield.
