THURROCK have been dealt a blow ahead of next season after captain Lewwis Spence left the club to join Ryman One South newcomers Greenwich Borough.
It is understood that Spence was offered a “great deal” to join the London club, and he decided to bring his association with Fleet to an end after three years at the club.
Thurrock were beaten in the play-off semi-finals at the end of last season, although Spence missed much of the campaign through injury.
And Spence told the club’s website that leaving was a difficult decision.
“Leaving Thurrock was a very difficult decision to make but I want to thank the gaffer (Mark Stimson), the management team and everyone else for their support during my time at the club.
“I wish Thurrock all the best next season and know that the lads will do me proud.”
And Stimson said he was disappointed to see his star midfielder leave, although wished him all the best.
“It is a loss to us as working with Lewwis over the last three years has been an absolute pleasure,” he said. “I wish him all the best.”
