THURROCK scored two goals in the space of three second half minutes to secure an important comeback win at Worthing.
Mark Stimson's side travelled to Worthing knowing that defeat would close the gap between them and the bottom placed side to just four points.
But Fleet were able to return to Ship Lane with all three points having notched a 2-1 win.
Thurrock fell behind moments after the break, as Reece Meekums found the back of the net for the home side.
But Fleet fought back and substitute Timothy Ogunrinde levelled matters on 78 minutes.
The game was turned on its head three minutes later as Lewwis Spence got his name on the scoresheet.
Fleet were able to hold onto their lead and will now go into their Boxing Day derby at Billericay Town with another win under their belts.
Thurrock: McNamara, Morgan, Sutton, Dunn, Ujah, Christou, Pindy (Ribeirio-Goncalves 68'), Spence, Stimson, Winn (Ogunrinde 66'), Nouble (Brown-Bampoe 69')
