GRAYS Athletic are in the Isthmian North play-off places after they saw off the challenge of struggling Soham Town Rangers.
Blues had Dennis Oli and Joao Carlos to thank for the points, which stretched Tilbury's unbeaten run in the league to five matches.
The first half saw few chances of note in a game that lacked quality in patches.
Aron Gordon had two good opportunities although Soham came closest to breaking the deadlock when Rob Mason struck the post.
The opening goal came five minutes after half-time - Oli meeting Barry Cogan's free-kick and heading home.
Ryan Auger equalised two minutes later following a poor defensive clearance although Grays had the last laugh.
Carlos was tripped in the penalty area inside the final 20 minutes and the referee pointed to the spot.
The striker picked himself up to score what proved to be the winner.
Soham hit the bar but couldn't force a leveller.
Grays Athletic: Anderson, Mahal, Okonkwo, Finneran, Toner, Cogan (Curtis 69), Muguo, Hahn, Gordon (Mignot 89), Barnwell (Oli 45), Carlos
