Thurrock golfer Jason Jones has had a highly successful few weeks, which started with him winning his division on Captain’s Day and having a hole-in-one at the par three eighth on his way — which cost him a pretty penny at the bar.
He then went on to win the regional Final of the NAPGC Public Courses Championship, played at High Elms in Kent, where he had 45 points and has qualified to play in the National Final at St. Andrews, his son Kane also qualified.
Then on Sunday he achieved the final jewel in his crown, when he won the Club Championship for the first time.
The morning round was dominated by high winds, with Steve Ali posting the best score at the half-way mark, with a 73, closely followed by Tony Dineen and Jess Humphrey on 74 and Jason one back on 75.
In the afternoon, David Swain and reigning champion Del Tunstead staged a late comeback, but it was cadet Daniel Rigby who led in the clubhouse with a 73 for a total of 149, including an eagle three at the last.
But Jason Jones held his nerve and made par at the last to win by one shot on 148.
Chairman John Cleary hosted the award ceremony and Jason received the Cup from Club Captain Dave Saunders, pics attached.
On a final note, the first charity day raised £1,200 for Children with Leukaemia.
