Maidenhead United 0, Thurrock FC 2 Fleet’s sensational start to the new season continued in Berkshire where they took their unbeaten run to eight games.

Thurrock, only saved from relegation back to Ryman level when Team Bath pulled out, look more like promotion candidates this time round.

They dominated early exchanges at Maidenhead and, after Fola Orinolishe’s third-minute effort went just wide, only resolute defending by home man Jack Bradshaw stopped David Bryant scoring from Matt Bodkin’s cross.

But there was no stopping the visitors who took an 18th-minute lead when Bodkin crossed for Bryant to head home.

Bryant was foiled by home keeper Chris Tardif on 48 minutes and Kieran Knight headed a rare Maidenhead chance straight at Joe Woolley in the visiting goal.

Thurrock, who now host Dover Athletic at Ship Lane tomorrow, had to play the last 20 minutes with 10 men when Phil Anderson was sent off for two bookings.

But they made light of this by clinching the three points with a second goal, substitute Leon McKenzie marking his return to the club by scoring from Bodkin’s cross.
