Sea catches this week: Southend Pier: The odd codling, whiting, bass and schoolies and garfish are being taken.
Southend, Westcliff and Chalkwell beaches: Schoolies and flounders.
The River – up to Dagenham: Flounders, eel and bass.
Tilbury: Flounders, pouting and schoolies and the odd eel and sole, gray flounders, schoolies and eels.
Stanford: Flounder, schoolies and smelt. Eddie Shaw fished the Morrison Jetty upriver and had 16 flounders plus five eels and all were of a decent size.
Boat, Private and charter: It was a case of cod almighty for the private boats.
Southend owner Mike Field took Dave Hindley out for a bit of cod-bashing. And Dave landed a huge cod of over 14lbs off Thorpe Bay — adding another big fish to his CV.
At this moment there are Thornbacks, smoothhounds and still lots of dogfish bewing taken in local waters.
This Sunday (May 9) Rollo Rollings will be holding an open match at Ferry Lane in Rainham.
It’s a measure and return , booking in is at 8am and fishing is from 9-1pm. Entry is £10. £2 biggest fish. Lugworm, ragworm and fish baits only. Phone Rollo on 01702 335374.
