CRICKET: ESSEX’S Ryan ten Doeschate has won the 2010 Sky Sports Sixes League with 30 sixes from 369 deliveries.
It was the closest race ever at the top of the Sixes League table with just two sixes separating the top six players.
Ten Doeschate finished six sixes ahead of team mate Scott Styris who came 10th in the League table with 24 maximums from 242 deliveries.
Somerset’s Kieron Pollard, Glamorgan’s Tom Maynard, Surrey’s Rory Hamilton-Brown and Somerset’s Marcus Trescothick all scored 29 sixes each and filled second to fifth spot respectively in the table due to the number of balls faced.
He has won £2,000 and will be presented with the Sky Sports Sixes League trophy at the PCA Awards dinner.
“I am delighted to win the Sky Sports Sixes League this year,” said ten Doeschate.
“Obviously there are a lot of quality players including big-hitting overseas talent and it’s nice to know I can entertain along with these guys.”
The Sky Sports Sixes League ranks the top ten batsmen that have hit the most sixes in county limited overs cricket. Last year Dwayne Smith won the Sky Sports Sixes League with 27 sixes from 420 deliveries.
It is a second triumph in three years for Essex, as Graham Napier won in 2008 with a total of 36.
