Stanford 3rds 31, Westcliff Bulldogs 55 RUGBY: WITH their league opposition crying off mid week Stanford’s third string arranged a friendly with rivals Westcliff Bulldogs.
The game badly with Stanford conceding a try straight from the kick off. Trys came from Dan Lary and Steve Adams.
It was clear that Westcliff had the advantage with their backs so Stanford had to keep the ball and play a forwards game.
But despitee the change in tactics by Stanford Westcliff started to pull away. The second half saw Simon Rumble jointhe fray but Pete Sullivan had to leave the field with a damaged calf muscle.
From the kick-off Westcliff again went on the offensive and scored a few more tries. But Rumble made an immediate impact and barged his way over to score under the posts – with the conversion coming from Sean Cochrane. Dan Lary who completed his hat-trick but unfortunately, Westcliff were just too strong.
l Next week the 3rds are back to league action with an away fixture at East London.
