CRICKET: MATTHEW Lewis of struck 73 not out for the Belhus U14 "A" team as he hit five sixes - three of them consecutively - and four other boundaries in a match winning tally of 132 for the loss of five wickets in the latest round of U14 indoor six a side cricket fixtures played at Grays School.
Team colleagues of Lewis, Ben Kent and Jack Martin-Hussey, contributed 17 and 16 respectively.
But any thoughts that this game was over as a contest were quickly dispelled as Orsett "B" scored quickly through Joe Mitchell, 25 not out, Jack Shiner with 10 runs and Will Gibbon who scored 12.
Aided by some woeful Belhus bowling, Orsett closed on a creditable 93 for the loss of just two wickets but Belhus "A" were able to maintain their undefeated position due - in no small measure - to the exploits of Lewis.
There were two other undefeated teams in the U14 competition, being Horndon on the Hill and Orsett "A", and these two sides also clashed on Friday evening.
In a game which demonstrated a high standard of technical ability in the batting discipline, Horndon hit 103 for three wickets, for whom Alex Kojczyk finished on 26 not out, opener Daniel Petts hit 25 not out while Daniel Stone was also undefeated, with 18 runs to his credit.
Orsett "A" managed 72 for 5 in reply for whom Thomas Haden hit 10, J. Harvey struck 11 not out and Connor Boreham rounded off the Orsett reply with a dozen runs.
For Horndon, Stone claimed two wickets for 21 runs.
