Thurrock 2, Eastleigh 1 BLUE SQUARE BET SOUTH: Thurrock remained unbeaten since Grant Gordon took over at the helm with an impressive win against Eastleigh.

The Spitfires started the brighter though and Jamie Slabber gave them the lead after only 11 minutes when he smashed home after a goalmouth scramble. Eastleigh were looking slightly the better side and Joe Woolley had to be at his best to deny Slabber from doubling his tally after 24 minutes.

A minute later David Knight’s excellent cross was met on the half volley by Matt Bodkin but the shot whistled just over the crossbar.

Thurrock then started to get on top and another fantastic Knight cross saw Jason Matthews only able to parry the ball into the path of Kenny Clark who headed in from close range for his second goal in five days.

Early in the second half Woolley once again made an excellent save to deny Slabber after a quick Eastleigh breakaway but Thurrock were getting on top. It did take a moment of madness though for Thurrock to win.

A handball from an innocuous looking cross gave Jamie Richards the chance to score from the penalty spot and he sent Matthews the wrong way to send the Thurrock fans into raptures.

A minute later the impressive Bodkin saw his shot clip the outside of the post and go wide and as Eastleigh pushed for an equaliser both Tommy Tejan-Sie and Paul Olima had chances to put the game beyond doubt as Thurrock ran out deserved winners.
