NON-LEAGUE: Tilbury's play off quest took a dent, with a single goal defeat to a good AFC Sudbury side, which kept up the Suffolk's sides chances of a play off berth.
Dockers boss Paul Vaughan made a single change, with Tom Webb replacing Joe Nightingill in the starting line up.
Sudbury were out of the blocks in the early stages and went close. On 11 a cross from the left bounced over James Marrable and it took a last ditch clearance on the line by Steve Good. Within a minute Tilbury had a great chance when Alex Read was played in, lobbed over the keeper who made an excellent save with the ball going towards goal. Midway through the half, AFC Sudbury had 2 glorious chances with Michael Shinn and Chris Bryan both shooting over from 6 yards.
The only goal of the game came on 32 when Sudbury were awarded a dubious spot kick, for a foul just inside the box and James Baker shot home hard and firm to Marrable's right.
On 37 there was another major talking point when Sam Clarke went in 2 footed on Tilbury's Paul King, only to be yellow carded to the surprise of both sides. The tackle was nothing short of disgraceful.
Early in the second half Tilbury's beat chance of the afternoon fell to centre half Sam West, who's header was cleared off the line by Martin following a free kick from Webb.
Tilbury pushed hard for the equaliser and Read also went close with a header before Aiken was denied by a good tackle.
Sudbury's Griffiths should have wrapped the points up in the final 15 minutes following a poor kick.
On 83 scorer Baker was disappointed to see his shot go over. In the final minutes Tilbury's West and Read were denied. Tilbury finished the final minutes with 10 men due to Bostry Bansende being carried off with injury, which amounted to 10 extra minutes being played.
The result leaves Tilbury in 5th and Sudbury in 6th, just one place behind the Dockers. Next Saturday, Tilbury travel to Heybridge Swifts and meet up with former striker Jack West.
After the game, Captain Gary Henty commented "I thought we were unlucky in the 2nd half. We put Sudbury under a lot of pressure in the second period and we had 2 good efforts cleared off the line. Spirit is good within the squad and we look forward to redeeming ourselves next week at Heybridge Swifts".
Tilbury: Marrable, Mead (Bansende 73), Worrell (Bryan 56), King, West, Henty, Aiken, Good (Wraight 56), Read, Webb, Barnes
